Welcome to Window Into Wakefield – the blog! We have taken our monthly newsletter and turned it into a weekly blog from me, the Director of Admission & Financial Aid at Wakefield School. Window Into Wakefield will give you a weekly glimpse into what is happening on our campus, in our classrooms, and in the admissions office. I hope that you will enjoy reading about life atop our hill each week.
The time leading up to the holidays is always an exciting, and somewhat hectic time at schools, the hectic nature of life at school increases exponentially as the number of days until vacation decreases! As crazy as this time is it also abounds with opportunities to celebrate our community and all that the children have learned so far this year in the form of class productions, projects, and celebrations. Each time I attend one of the class productions or walk down the halls and admire the student work on display I am reminded of how excited I am for the day when my son will have the privilege of being a Wakefield student – he is only 7 months old so that is still some time off! Below are descriptions of just a few of the exciting events that have happened in the recent past at Wakefield School. I encourage you to visit our website often to stay up to date on the happenings on the hill. You can also follow us on Twitter and Facebook!!! (Please be sure to read all the way to the end the blog where you will find important dates for upcoming events and admission deadlines.)
Students in grades 6-10 participated in the History Day competition, to read more about History Day please click here.
Lower School students, and parents, celebrated Fun Friday for the Arts on December 4th. They gathered in the Dining Room to make ornaments that will be used to decorate the Christmas trees that are part of the set for Wakefield Theater’s production of A Child’s Christmas in Wales.
College news is rolling in now, with many of the seniors learning of their early decision acceptance to colleges and universities around the country. To see the most recent college news, or to learn more about the college counseling program, please click here.
Upper School Preview took place on Wednesday evening. Parents of eighth grade students gathered in the Dining Room for a lasagna dinner, served by the girls’ basketball team, at which they learned more about the adventures that lie ahead for their children in the Upper School. In addition to being entertained with holiday music by an Upper School pianist parents also heard speeches from three students about their personal decision to enroll in the Upper School. Following dinner and the presentations parents attended three mini-classes which gave them a glimpse into the courses their students would choose from in the Upper School, click here to see the offerings.
